The Board approved a 1.5% increase to pay road

Taxpayers can expect in Thunder Bay 1.5 percent increase in their bills next year. On Monday, the City Council supported the idea of hiking taxes to pay for roads and parks.

This decision came after polls commissioned a poll say the city is clearly shows the taxpayer support to raise taxes, to pay for better roads, sidewalks and parks.

“There is strong support for the city to spend money on infrastructure,” said Graham Loughton, Vice President of public affairs for Ipsos Reid. The city hired a company to get the opinion of the tax increase.

Ipsos Reid poll includes a total of 400 telephone interviews with respondents age 18 and older. The results are considered accurate within +/-4.9 per cent, 19 times out of 20.
